The Biggest Front Mount Intercooler We Make, Installed on a Customer's VB WRX

One of our longtime customers recently swapped out his existing PERRIN front mount intercooler for our largest one yet, and we had to share how it went.

Why Go Bigger?

He had been running our standard front mount intercooler on his 2022+ WRX for about three years with zero complaints. It held up great, looked clean, barely any rock chips. But when we sent over our larger core unit, he was ready to see what the upgrade could do. The new intercooler is roughly 40% larger overall, jumping from 11 rows of cooling to 16. Those five extra rows mean more airflow, less heat soak, and cooler intake temps where it matters most, especially above 3,000 RPM.

The Install

The install is pretty manageable overall. He needed to do a little trimming on the headlight brackets and the bumper end tanks to get everything sitting flush, and there was a minor fitment adjustment on one side. A Dremel took care of it quickly. He also painted our logo stencil onto the core, and his tip for anyone doing the same: line it up the stencil at the bottom of the core.

Real World Results

Out on the street, the difference was immediately noticeable. The car pulls harder through every gear and past redline, with an estimated 20 to 25 additional horsepower from improved cooling efficiency alone. No extra boost, no retune. Just cooler, denser air going to work.

Because the larger core fills the entire cavity behind the front bumper from top to bottom, all incoming air is forced straight through the intercooler rather than finding the path of least resistance around a smaller core. More surface area, more efficiency, more power.

The Takeaway

If you are considering a front mount intercooler upgrade for your 2022+ WRX, go with the larger core. The performance difference is real, and you will feel it every time you get into boost.
